How Is Our Music Program Funded?

We’re very blessed to be part of a community that recognizes and supports the spiritual and uplifting qualities of music.

Music programs at Good Samaritan Church are funded through various accounts. Here’s how it works.

  1. The basic operating expenses of the music program, including music copyright licenses, purchase of choir music, bell music, musical supplies, organ and piano tuning and maintenance, salaries, and payments to guest and substitute musicians, come from the general operating expenses fund of the church.
  2. A Music Restricted Account, which fluctuates from year to year, is funded by individuals who desire to support a specific music program for the short term. For example, funds for the summer choir program, which James Moursund directed for two summers, were donated to this account. Anyone can contribute to this account at any time.
  3. The Foundation has established several accounts designated to the music program, based on bequests given to the church for music. The interest generated by the capital in these accounts supports the choir program, aa well as large-scale organ maintenance. Anyone interested in supporting the music program far into the future may make a donation or bequest to the Foundation earmarked for music.
  4. There’s also a Capital Reserve Account designated for organ improvements.
  5. The Sundays@3 Concert Series is a self-sustaining program, meaning that it’s not funded through Sunday-envelope contributions, but from donations made by the broader Corvallis community. That said, many church members are loyal Season Supporters whose generosity is vital to the Sundays@3 programs. Without their support, we could not offer these concerts admission-free as a community service. Good Samaritan Church also donates administrative supplies, such as paper and printer ink for concert programs, heat, lights etc.

Thank you for generously supporting the music program!
