Designated Offering: Meals on Wheels

Designated Offering

Meals on Wheels

Each month, we designate a particular social service organization for financial support through special collections on Sundays. This May, our special offering goes to Meals on Wheels.

For nearly 40 years, Meals on Wheels has provided hot meals delivered by volunteers to homebound seniors and younger disabled people, as well as to the Corvallis Senior Center, where those who are able to travel can enjoy the company of others as they eat lunch together.

More than the meal, the organization offers its clients the assurance that someone will be there to greet them with a smile and check on them each day. It’s part of a health care system that helps seniors continue to live at home — and it makes a difference. Last year, Meals on Wheels served more than 184,200 meals to 2,014 people in Benton, Lincoln and Linn Counties.

Funding for this service comes from participants and generous friends, as well as grants and government sources. Medicaid pays for a large number those who cannot donate for their meals.

That said, private donations are vital to keep the service going, because while the population of those over age 60 continues to grow, state and federal funding for these services has stayed flat or even declined.

Your generous gifts to Meals on Wheels will help ensure that it can continue to care for our neighbors.

How to help

Make a designated offering

Please give prayerful consideration to this month’s designated offering. To participate, make out a check to Church of the Good Samaritan, write “designated offering” on the memo line, and place it in the plate during the Sunday services offertory (or mail it to our office). You can also use the “designated offering” envelope found in the back of each pew.

At the end of each month, we write a single check from Good Sam to the organization we’ve designated for our support. Thank you for helping to ensure that this valuable service can continue!

Be a volunteer

Meals on Wheels is always looking for volunteers, whether you’re interested in packaging meals for home delivery, delivering meals or spending time at Senior Meals with our most vulnerable population. Visit their website to learn more.
