Good Sam Has a New Rector

Good Sam Has a New Rector!

I am thrilled to announce that your vestry has called the Rev. David A. Marshall to be the new rector of Good Samaritan Church.

Father Marshall comes to us from St. Dunstan’s parish in Shoreline, WA, where he served for 15 years. He earned a Master of Divinity degree cum laude from Virginia Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s in computer science. He came to the priesthood after a career as a software engineer. He and his wife, Alice, have three grown children and two grandchildren.

You’ll have a chance to meet him via video at the Annual General Meeting on February 4.

Here are some of the good things the Search Committee said about Father Marshall: “… A committed servant, dedicated to pastoral care and spiritual growth” “…a passion for adult education” “… Innovative and wants to make a difference” “Has a sense of humor” ‘… “Loves being a priest, teaching classes, engaging, preaching, and music.”

When he and his wife, Alice, visited us in December, your vestry found all these things to be true, and more. We were impressed with his positive spirit, his passion for pastoral care, his track record of nurturing and growing congregations, and his scholarly and engaging preaching.

The Marshalls plan to be moved to Corvallis by early March. Father Marshall’s first Sunday with us is set for March 10. As we’ll still be in Lent, we will give him a warm but quiet welcome, followed by a big Celebration of Ministry after Easter.

Yours in Christ,

Gail Wells
Senior Warden
