Designated Offering: Corvallis Daytime Drop-in Center

Designated Offering

Corvallis Daytime Drop-in Center (CDDC)

Each month, we designate a particular social service organization for financial support through special collections on Sundays. This April, our special offering goes to the CDDC.

The CDDC serves as a central service and navigation point for those who are homeless or in poverty. The goal is to reduce the stigma that often comes with being poor. This means that every person will be treated with care and with dignity, as well as given space to share their voice, perspective, and experience.

CDDC works carefully to help people find the services they need to move from homelessness. Beyond meeting people’s basic needs, CDDC’s mission is to provide dignified assistance and advocacy, offer opportunities for building community and social networks, and support individuals’ welfare and rehabilitation as they move through emergency, transitional, and ongoing life situations. CDDC is a welcoming face with help along with a cup of hot coffee or tea.

Originally, CDDC was known as The Circle of Hope, established to provide socialization for people with psychiatric disabilities. Over time, CDDC has evolved to serve those most in need, including people who are chronically marginalized due to poverty, homelessness, mental health disabilities, and substance use disorders.

CDDC’s guests face substantial social disparities that involve behavioral health disabilities, substance use disorders, transition from incarceration, lack of access to education, and generational poverty often presenting as chronic homelessness.

The work of CDDC helps to improve our whole community as we strive to educate and inform more privileged individuals about poverty and to bridge the divide between those who are housed and unhoused.

Make a designated offering

Please give prayerful consideration to this month’s designated offering. To participate, make out a check to Church of the Good Samaritan, write “designated offering” or “CDDC” on the memo line, and place it in the plate during the Sunday services offertory (or mail it to our office). You can also use the “designated offering” envelope found in the back of each pew.

At the end of each month, we write a single check from Good Sam to the organization we’ve designated for our support. Thank you for helping to ensure that this valuable service can continue!
