Men’s Breakfast and Fellowship

Once upon a time, way back in the 1980s, our former rector Robert Hardman noticed that the men of Good Sam didn’t have many opportunities to connect socially.

So he started the Men’s Breakfast. Later, we also started a Men’s Lunch. Find out how to join in either or both of those events, below.

Men’s Breakfast

Twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday, we meet from 7:30 to 8:30am in the Bishop Katharine Lounge, where we share a meal and discuss a topic. One person cooks. Someone else leads the discussion. Both roles rotate. The doors open for setup at 7am.

Newcomers are welcome to drop in any time; if you join the email list, you’ll get a note on the Thursday beforehand announcing who’s cooking and who’s choosing the topic.

What do we typically talk about? The possibilities are wide open, but past topics include state and local affairs, ballot measures, religious questions, ethical quandaries, the environment, earthquake preparedness, and so on. We have some philosophers and writers among us, so we get a bit of variety.

We try to exercise care with hot button issues, but we’re not afraid to talk about things, either. Everybody listens to everybody else. And we try to respect each other.

On the first Tuesday of the month, this group also meets at 9-10:30am. No topic of discussion is set; it’s just a chance to spend time.
