Sunday School

Preschool and elementary-age children are invited to a special time of fellowship and interactive spiritual formation, from September through May.

Join us in our sacred circle to hear a story, talk about it, and respond to it using art. (This year, children will be invited to share their art during the Spring Art Show!)

This Sunday School program is for children from age four to grade three. Note, Godly Play does not meet during the summer months.

I want to drop in

Come to the Narthex (the back of the church) on your way into the Sanctuary for the 10:30am Sunday service, and use the sign-in sheet to get started. Your children will be greeted by the teacher and invited to sit in the sacred circle to draw, read, or sit, until it’s time for the story to begin. Godly Play sessions end at The Peace; you can pick up your children then.

What is Godly Play?

Godly Play is a creative, child-focused way of experiencing our sacred stories, parables, liturgical actions and silence. Based on Montessori, this program is imaginative and story-focused, introducing children to the history of the early church and the stories of the Bible through the rhythm of the Christian year.

The lessons are hands-on, using visual aids like fabric, wooden figures, and models. The format gives children time to ask questions, tell stories, and ponder open-ended ideas. It may also involve drawing, coloring, writing, or playing with the lesson materials.

Meet the Teacher

Hello, my name is Sarah Reichard and I am the Godly Play teacher for Good Samaritan Church.

As a parent myself, I know the level of trust I must have in someone before I entrust my child to them. With that in mind, I want to tell you a little about my experience working with children.

I am originally from Oklahoma, and while I attended university, I worked part-time for a church’s preschool in the 4-5-year-old class. I have also worked as a librarian and assisted with various programs and events for children.

I moved to Corvallis in 2014 and met my husband, Rick, while working at my job as an instructional designer in corporate training. We have one son, Phineas, who regularly attends the 10:30am Eucharist with me and who attends Godly Play as well!

I feel very blessed to be teaching Godly Play and providing a space where children can wonder, explore, and discover the mystery of God through storytelling and play.
